Application of Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Tannery Wastewater Reuse

Tanneries produce large amounts of wastewater with high concentrations suspended solids, organic matter, and salts. Treatment reuse these effluents are great importance to preserve water resources save costs. Although solids percentages matter can be eliminated by physico-chemical biological processes, refractory chemical oxygen demand (COD) salts will remain in the after processes. In particular, chloride sulphate ion may hinder treated from being reused or even discharged according legal standards. this work, two nanofiltration membranes reverse osmosis tested assess technologies as regeneration processes for biologically tannery wastewater. Permeate flux rejection ions were measured at different operating conditions (transmembrane pressure cross-flow velocities) both total recycle concentration modes. Results showed that difference between permeate fluxes (NF) (RO) was very high. Thus, 20 bar 1.77 m·s?1, NF mode experiments 106 67 L·m?2·h?1, while obtained RO 25 18 L·m?2·h?1. Concerning rejections, rejected almost 100% salts, whereas reduced their when faced increasing factors (salt 50–60% highest factor). addition, fouling lower than membranes, recovering more 90% initial permeability only rinsing. contrast, cleaning necessary increase recovery above 90%. The considerably rejections higher membrane lead us conclude could most feasible technique industry, though those achieved membranes.
